Welcome to St. John United Church of Christ. No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here! St. John UCC is a place where the Bible is taken seriously but not literally. One story that is common between the three Synoptic Gospels is the story of the Greatest Commandment in which Jesus identifies the greatest commandment as loving God with your entire being and loving your neighbor as yourself.
On October 27, 1963, a small group met for the first service of Pineda United Church of Christ (UCC). They met in the home of Sidney Bice. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to Eau Gallie UCC. On February 16, 1964, the church started meeting in the Auxiliary Room of the West Eau Gallie Fire Department on Aurora Road in Melbourne.
In late 1964, the church purchased property at the corner of Croton Road & Lake Washington Road. A temporary building was constructed by the members. The church used the temporary structure for 15 years because of the decline in Cape Canaveral NASA programs which affected the overall economy of the Melbourne community. Finally, in 1979, a permanent structure was built. This is the small building presently used for the Fellowship Hall and classrooms.
In 1988, Eau Gallie UCC was renamed Crossroads UCC. On the 40th anniversary year of the church, construction was started for the present day sanctuary, library and offices. Worship began in the new building on January 9, 2005. 2014 marked Crossroads' 50th anniversary.
Although there have been many physical changes to our church, our heart remains the same. "Love God, Love your neighbor."

On April 1, 1990 our church held its first worship service at Pine Lake Community Center as a new church start named Sammamish Congregational United Church of Christ, planted by the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Church of Christ. In 1992, we were chartered with 107 members. We lost our founding pastor in 1993 due to cancer. In 1998, the church sold its initial property and purchased another property with no buildings. We became an Open & Affirming congregation in 2000 and in 2005 changed our name to Spirit of Peace United Church of Christ. Due to numerous challenges in building a church on the property, it was sold to King County in 2012, which allowed for expansion of the popular Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park.
Although we continue to hold worship services at Pine Lake Community Center, for a time in our early history, we worshipped at the historic Lutheran Bible Institute chapel. In 2020, with the onset of the COVID pandemic, Spirit of Peace transitioned to worship via Zoom.
